Donald Trump schetst hoe een “kreupel Amerika” weer “gerestaureerd” kan worden tot een groots land. Het boek gaat in op Trump’s visie op belangrijke kwesties waaronder de economie, salarissen en belastingen van grote CEO’s, gezondheidszorg, onderwijs, nationale veiligheid en sociale kwesties. Van bijzonder belang is zijn visie op volledige hervorming van de immigratie, te beginnen met het beter beveiligen van de grenzen en het op de eerste plaats zetten van eigen ( Amerikaanse) arbeiders.
“Hoewel lezers het oneens kunnen zijn met zijn politiek, kan niemand die dit boek leest, ontkennen dat Trump geweldige prestaties op zijn naam heeft staan”. Hij houdt het kort en krachtig. Bevat feiten. Hij heeft gelijk en commentaren van diegenen die hem haten zijn niet geschikt als recensie. Niets dat wordt vermeld is onjuist en de inhoud verklaart zelfs de boze uitdrukking op zijn gezicht op de omslag en in het voorwoord”.
Great book!! Newt Gingrich is insightful and honest regarding President Trump! He also puts forth some amazing suggestions on how to make our country great again!
Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2018. Written before his stunning victory over Hillary Clinton in 2016, this book contains President Trump’s essential ideas about personal values (hard work, integrity, etc.) and governance (repealing and replacing disastrous Obamacare, passing tax cut legislation, and fighting illegal immigration, among others). Just like it was necessary to read the tedious works by Obama and Hillary to determine what they “believed” in, this biography is essential reading to understand the president as he implements his agenda over the eight years of his presidency.
Moreover, readers will most likely accede to his ideas as millions of voters did in the 2016 election. Trump’s often hyperbolic expressions are ideas held by millions of people disgusted by Washington inaction before his election and the continued harassment of Deep State actors (like Comey, Strzok, etc.). American voters must have found the following six statements among many others deeply refreshing:
1. “I don’t need anyone’s financial support, nor do I need anyone’s approval of what I say or do” (xii).
2. “If you get knocked down, you climb right back up and keep fighting until you win. That’s been my strategy all my life, and I’ve been very successful following it” (6).
3. “I love immigration [….] What I don’t love is the concept of illegal immigration” (21).
4. “Those who spend their days sweating at their job should not have to sweat about their lives at night” (82).
5. “I have a nasty habit that most career politicians don’t have: I tell the truth” ([89]).
6. “I never worry about being politically correct” (136).
The following advice which Trump earned in the business world also must have resonated with American voters, who could easily perceive its application to government policy: “Remember the principal strategy of negotiation: The side that needs the deal the most is the one that should walk away with the least” (40; last clause after the colon in italics in original).
Of course, Trump’s humor is infectious (unless one suffers from Trump Derangement Syndrome and thus can find nothing funny coming from the man), as when he repeats Mark Twain’s joke: “’Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself’” (64).
I was surprised that I agreed with much of Trump’s claims. I, too, have never abided by the politically-correct nonsense of my field (academia), nor have I censored my pro-life views. Readers who come to this book with an open mind (again, this excludes those suffering from severe Trump Derangement Syndrome) will agree with him on numerous points as well.
Finally, his boasting aside, it is obvious why Americans voted for Trump over Hillary in 2016. Trump’s accomplishments (declared over many pages) trounce mere claims of public service achievements by Hillary Clinton. While readers can disagree with his politics, no one reading this book can deny that Trump has stellar accomplishments to his credit.
“The 193 pages can be read in one day”.
